Butz - Choquin
|
Jean-baptiste
Choquin was a tobacconist in Metz France. He was quite successful,
having many workers in his employee. Among those was Gustave
Butz who was his first employee. Butz became Choquin's son-in-law
marrying his daughter Marie. In 1858 Butz and Choquin collaborated
on thier first pipe. It was a curved pipe with albatross
bone trim and silver bands carved under the name Choquin.
After some success Butz officially established manufacturing
in Metz and took the name Butz-Choquin. In 1951 the company
was sold to Berrod-Regad. Berrod-Regad moved production
to the famed Saint-Claude region of France. After several
years of planning the "BC" pipe was ready for
International export. In 1960 it became official and the
BC pipe was marketed worldwide through an organised sales
network. The range of pipes went from 10 to over 70 in a
short time. Thanks to Berrod-Regad the BC pipe is recognised,
respected and enjoyed worldwide. In 2002, wishing to preserve
the BC heritage for future generations of pipe smokers,
the Berrod family sold Butz-Choquin to Fabien Guichon, a
St. Claude native who continues the Butz-Choquin tradition
to this day.
